  • SRAM Eagle AXS ushers in a whole new thinking in the way mountain bike components can work together to provide a seamless customizable experience for the rider out on the trail. This XO1 specification groupset priorities outright strength for complete control on the most demanding terrain. The carbon tuned XO1 cranks utilize proprietary Sram carbon lay-up design to engineer the toughest, stiffest crank possible for big hits and aggressive lines through rock gardens. Advanced carbon architecture techniques such as tapering, and terracing provide significant weight savings without compromising on strength. The cranks integrate cleanly with an X-SYNC2 chainring for complete chain control, each tooth’s profile is precisely engineered to work quietly, efficiently and securely with the Eagle chain’s inner and outer links. The rainbow coloured XX1 chain links have a smooth radius, with no sharp edges or chamfers, which yield a significant reduction in noise, friction and wear. This design also allows for a flatter plate, which means more consistent chain riveting and greater overall strength. The cassette mounts to the proven Sram XD driver body enabling a massive 500% overall gear range, equal to that of a 2×11 drivetrain without any of the extra componentry that would involve.By Srams own admission the rear derailleur is the heart of the whole AXS system having been designed specifically for this ground breaking groupset. Taking things from the ground up Sram have shortened the cage by 10mm, with more chain wrap allowing it to sit further inboard compared to its mechanical counterpart. This decreases the likelihood of a collision, but this is mountain biking and we all know the very nature of the sport makes a brush with an obstacle almost inevitable during the lifetime of the derailleur. This is why Sram engineered the Overload Clutch to allow the entire mechanism to disengage and move away from knocks and impact. The smart bit isn‚Äôt only the fact it can sense impact and flinch but also that post impact the derailleur simply moves back into place, so the rider can resume pedaling in the same gear as if nothing had happened. When it comes to changing gear the Sram outlook was simple – ‚Äòyou push a button and what you want to happen happens‚Äô. With an electronic controller there is never any variation in the required shifting pressure and no delay whatsoever. However, it goes further than just providing an instantaneous signal to the derailleur, the controller features user customizable buttons so you can customize the touchpoints to carry out the exact action you want them to. To reassure all weather warriors both the shifter and derailleur are waterproof rated to IPX69K for ultimate protection from riding through the elements. The Sram AXS mobile app allows the rider to customize the controller touchpoints on the fly while also being able to view connected feedback on ideal service times and battery levels of all AXS parts. Sram suggest twenty hours battery life on the rear derailleur with charging in the included cradle taking one hour. The controller takes one CR2032 lithium cell which should provide two years of battery life. Sram have taken a connected approach to all AXS lines meaning that you can pair any of the controller buttons with any other derailleur or Rockshox Reverb seat post within the AXS range. The rechargeable batteries can also be swapped between components and are exactly the same fitment as road AXS.

As with many cyclists, be it mountain bikers, BMX riders or road cyclists we want to take the time to make sure we get the best products. Where cycling is a passion for many we often invest a lot of our time and money into the hobby. And as we know, getting the right products can give us that small competitive advantage either over our actual competitors, our mates or even just beating our own goals. But because we do invest so much in our bikes and our equipment it’s really important to buy from recognised retailers, in our most recent search, we found many products available online for ridiculously (almost laughable) prices.
